Following its recent purchase of the development and construction rights to The Ribbon hotel project in Sydney’s Darling Harbour from Grocon, leading Australian developer, Greaton, has now announced its appointment of a new construction contractor.

Tier one Australian construction company, Probuild, will take over construction on the landmark 24-story project from previous contractors Grocon, ensuring continuity of the build towards its Q2 2022 completion date. As it stands, works have been progressing on site and Grocon and Probuild will now undertake a seamless handover of construction duties.

Greaton will continue in its role as development manager on The Ribbon to ensure the delivery of an engaging and publicly accessible project, with the support of NSW Government’s Darling Harbour precinct manager, Place Management NSW.

Once complete, the eye-catching building will include a five-star W Hotel, including 450 guestrooms and 143 suites. The hotel will also incorporate onsite facilities such as the W Hotel brand’s signature Wet Deck – a rooftop pool deck with Sydney views – as well as an all-day dining restaurant, two bars, a spa and gym and modern event spaces.

In addition, The Ribbon will reintroduce the people of Sydney to the delights of immersive widescreen movies, with an IMAX Theatre set to reopen on the site, while the premises will incorporate a selection of fine dining restaurants as well.

The Ribbon will also provide visitors to Darling Harbour with brand-new retail and entertainment spaces, plus 10,000 square meters of renewed and enhanced public domain, including improved pedestrian and visual access, a new public playground and open event space, and new entrance points to Darling Harbour.
