Jefferson Health has announced plans for the Thomas Jefferson Specialty Care Pavilion, the latest in the organization’s portfolio of properties in the Market East district of Center City. Located at 1101 Chestnut Street across from the iconic PSFS Building (now Loews Philadelphia Hotel), the project is designed by Ennead Architects and Stantec and will stand around 400 feet (122 meters) tall. The structure is planned to yield some 462,000 square feet (42,900 square meters) of floor space, over 300 exam rooms, and numerous medical services.

The site was previously home to a hulking mid-rise commercial structure with sparse Art Deco detailing and large expanses of windowless walls. The structure was recently demolished, and a rendering was released in November 2019, revealing a slightly different design with a smaller residential tower on the western side of the block. The combined complex is known as East Market Phase 3. The rectangular, glass-clad tower will rise to roughly the same height as the nearby office building at 1101 Market Street, long known as the Aramark Tower until Jefferson Health recently leased, renovated, and re-branded the property as Jefferson Center.

According to Jefferson, the groundbreaking is planned for this fall. Completion is scheduled for 2024, timed to coincide with the university’s 200th anniversary.
