Source of Shenzhen Building’s Mysterious Shaking Found
A "vortex-induced resonance" caused the shaking at SEG Plaza in Shenzhen on 18 May 2021, which led to its being evacuated and closed to occupants while the situation was investigated.
It was found the building’s two masts had distorted over the years, allowing the wind to generate vibrations which were felt 21 times over the next two days. Investigators report the structure is safe to occupy, according to the Global Times, and recommend removing the existing masts to prevent further vibrations.
While the building has been closed, the tenants have been provided space by the local government to continue business operations.
