Plans for a super-skinny skyscraper in Birmingham have been given the green light by Birmingham City Council’s planning committee.

Designs by Glancy Nicholls Architects for the 37-story, 9.5-meter-wide tower were approved on Thursday, 13 February, 2020. It will stand at 211 Broad Street, next to Glenn Howells Architects’ forthcoming 2one2 Broad Street, a 42-story housing block for Moda Living.

The ultra-thin scheme, for developer Taylor Grange, will be 33 stories of serviced apartments above three floors of hotel-style facilities, with a total of 264 self-contained rooms. Resident amenities below will include a bar, restaurant, gym and lounge.

Two existing buildings on the site, 117-118 Tennant Street and Transport House, will be demolished.

According to Glancy Nicholls director Lisa Deering, “advances in engineering and construction technology have allowed us to design an iconic building that will enhance Birmingham’s skyline and bring a new type of skyscraper to the city.”

Completion is planned for 2022.
