Shenzhen High-Rise Evacuated After Mysterious Shaking Occurs

No cause has yet been announced for the shaking experienced at SEG Plaza in Shenzhen around half past noon local time on Tuesday, 18 May, 2021. The 15,000 people in the building at the time were evacuated within 90 minutes, and no injuries or casualties were reported. 

Access to the 292-meter building was shut down as emergency management officials investigated the incident. Authorities investigating the cause of the shake said in a statement that no "abnormalities in the main structure and surrounding environment of the building" had been found. Officials also reported there was no earthquake in the area and the wind was light.

Completed in 2000, the tower is located in the busy shopping district of Huaqiangbei, home to a large electronics market. The building is named after the semiconductor and electronics manufacturer Shenzhen Electronics Group, whose offices are based in the complex.
