In San Francisco, the beleaguered Millennium Tower, which has been tilting and sinking despite efforts to correct the situation, just added plumbing challenges to the list of woes.

Drains in the building that were designed to slope south and east will experience decreased slope as the building continues to tilt toward the northwest. The slope on some of the drain lines has decreased by 25 percent, according to reporting by NBC Bay Area’s Investigative Unit. Without enough slope, drains will clog and backup.

The situation was uncovered after the building was evaluated for functionality following the increased rate of tilting once work began on the foundation. No signs of distress were reported in the elevator system.

A final fix on the building’s pipes will need to wait until the building has been permanently stabilized.
