Residential Project Delivered in Amsterdam
A new, two-tower mixed-use scheme from Studio Gang has been delivered in Amsterdam, Studio Gang's first on the European continent.
The 297,170-square-foot (27,607-square-meter) Q Residences will add 248 total residences in the center of Buitenveldert, which is one of the few remaining "garden cities" remaining in Amsterdam after World War II.
Studio Gang says their design “brings a more organic, sculptural feel to the rational rectilinearity of the surrounding 1950s developments.”
The project's two volumes contain its residential programming, outfitted with a series of angled, generous balconies in an "origami"-esque pattern designed to bring in as much natural light as possible.
Piet Oudolf and Deltavormgroep developed the public plaza that surrounds the development. Solar panels, an efficient envelope and high-performance heating and cooling add to the energy- and resource-efficiency of the project.
This is the fourth major residential project to open in Amsterdam in 2022 following the debut of the HAUT mass timber tower from Arup, BIG and Barcode's cantilevering Sluishuis residences, and MVRDV’s new Valley design that was completed in late September 2022.
