Three 30-story residential towers have been proposed in downtown Hamilton in Ontario.

Emblem Developments submitted plans for buildings at 41-61 Wilson Street, and 97, 99, 117 John Street North. The complex would deliver 908 residential units with 1,784 square meters of retail on the ground level of a seven-story podium. The podium would house 505 parking spaces, and storage for 469 bicycles.

Hamilton’s Design Review Panel took issue with the scale and cladding of the podium, which would be in conversation with a church on the northeast corner of the site. Some suggestions involved moving part of the podium underground and pushing it further into the site to give the church more space.

A single-family home and an automotive garage business on John Street would be demolished to make way for the development.

Emblem is currently building a 14-story condominium tower at 1 Jarvis Street. Construction at John and Wilson is expected to start after that project is complete.
