A uniquely shaped building is planned for Mannheim, Germany. This project is called The "O" given that it is shaped like that letter. This project will be built in the Franklin Mitte district, an area formerly called the Benjamin Franklin Village which was a United States Army installation that closed in 2012.

The 27,500-square-meter (296,000-square-foot) building will hold 120 residential units. The project will also feature retail at street level and a library. A monumental staircase starts at the base of the building and leads visitors to a public terrace which is located in the central void of the building.

The "O" will not be the only letter shaped building in the area. MVRDV not only has designed The "O" but also The "M". Further, architects haas cook zemmrich STUDIO2050 designed The "H" and Albert Speer + Partner designed The "E." Once all buildings are complete, these buildings will spell “HOME” visibly among the other low buildings in the district. For now, The "O" will stand alone. Construction for the project is scheduled to finish in 2025.
