Shake table testing preparations are underway for a 10-story mass timber building by the project team at NHERI@UCSD. These will take place over the course of about a month once preparations are complete. The team has been placing their focus toward final exterior façade installations and the installation of approximately 710 sensors, of which over 85 percent have been installed. Site staff are preparing instruments while students take care of most of the installations. The testing will measure accelerations, drifts, joint movement, strains in rocking walls and connection hardware.

In order to be ready for testing, cables must be attached to the sensors and routed to the data acquisition system in the shake table control building. Cameras must also be mounted to capture dynamic response footage and safety harnesses must be attached from the upper floors of the structure and anchored back to the ground. Lastly, the rocking wall post-tensioning forces must be calibrated. Testing is anticipated to begin in late March.
