Plans for World’s Tallest Hybrid Timber Tower in South Perth Approved
Plans have been given the green light to construct the tallest hybrid timber tower in Perth. Grange Development Consulting, a developer based in Victoria, has been authorized to build a 50-story tower with 237 apartments at a cost of $350 million. The building, named C6 after the symbol for carbon in the periodic table, aims to become the first carbon-negative building in the state. Despite initial concerns raised by the City of South Perth regarding the design, the project was unanimously approved at a recent development assessment meeting.
The plans include a four-story open-air piazza on the ground floor, which will feature a playground, cinema, horticultural zone, and entertainment area. Grange Development intends to share its research, design, and construction documentation after the completion of the project, in order to encourage other developers to adopt and improve the timber-based building methodology as a sustainable and viable option.
