Phase 1 Designed for Golden Mile's Master Plan in Toronto
With the Crosstown LRT line planning to open in 2022, the Golden Mile is receiving an influx of proposed projects. This commercial district in Toronto’s district Scarborough currently has 12 development application active with the City Planning. Overall, these developments are looking to transform this big box retail and industrial park area into a mixed-use community with over 32,000 new residential units.
The master plan for 1900 Eglinton East is one of the largest plans for the area. The site location for this proposal presently contains about 30 tenants and 35,000 square meters (380,000 square feet) of retail space. The early phases of the master plan are focused on the less-developed portions of the property to ensure continued retail presence on the property. 1900 Eglinton East Block 8 and Block 9 are part of the first phase of the project. These two residential towers, designed by architects-Alliance, will stand at 129.9 meters (426 feet) and 123.4 meters (405 feet) respectively.
When the masterplan was presented to the Toronto Design Review Panel, the reaction was overall positive. There was no vote, but the panel did request that a more defined master plan be drafted before phase one moved forward. SmartCentres is currently updating their master plan with plans to resubmit it to the city in the near future.
