New Supertall Tops Out in Nanning
One of the world’s tallest new skyscrapers is taking shape in the regional capital of Nanning in Southern China, where a 403-meter (1,322-foot) crystalline tower designed for multiple uses recently topped out. Once complete, it will be the tallest building designed by Goettsch Partners (GP).
The new mixed-use project, Nanning China Resources Center Tower, rises in a burgeoning area of Guangxi Province’s capital with a tapered, stepped form reflecting its varied uses and totaling 85 floors, including more than 170,000 square meters of office space, nearly 6,000 square meters of retail, and a 336-room Shangri-La hotel. Sheathed entirely in high-performance glass, the tower’s integrated sunshades control solar gain while offering floor-to-ceiling views and admitting ample daylight inside.
“Meeting LEED-CS Gold standards, the tower’s high-performance façade, convenient connections to mass transit, and state-of-the-art infrastructure will establish the benchmark for a first-class development in Nanning,” says GP design partner Paul De Santis, LEED AP. “The unique crystalline shape, signature sky terrace, and illuminated crown will create a new, identifiable silhouette for the city.”
