Clean architectural lines, indoor rock gardens and a calm decor palette will create a stark contrast to the Yonge and Bloor Street intersection—one of the Toronto’s busiest—just outside the doors of 55C, a new condominium tower planned for 55 Charles Street East.

“55C is the closest thing to Zen that we’ve done in Toronto,” says interior designer Anna Simone of Cecconi Simone, a Toronto-based global design firm.

The Yonge/Bloor hub that will be home to the 48-story tower is “an incredibly dynamic place to live,” Simone points out, “you want your place to be a sanctuary.”

“Interiors, landscaping and architecture are planned to work together to seamlessly connect indoors and outdoors.”

Developer Gary Switzer, CEO of MOD Developments, feels the same about the 551-suite building where interiors, landscaping and architecture are planned to work together to seamlessly connect indoors and outdoors.

“You want that feeling when you’re coming home,” Switzer says, referring to the Zen sensibility of the double-height lobby with dark stone and wood paneling, part of the “minimalist luxury” design of the skyscraper. “It’s beautifully refined like a well-made suit.”

As well, the project will include 10 two-story townhomes at the base and 100 rental units designed into the podium. “It’s a great way to replace very tired rental stock,” he adds.
