Construction work has started on De Puls in Amsterdam’s Zuidas. The complex in the Innovation Quarter will include housing, offices, a cinema, bars and restaurants.

Right alongside the building known as the Hourglass, the sheet piling is in place in preparation for excavating the construction pit. Completion is anticipated by late 2024.

Featured Buildings

Developed by VORM and EDGE, De Puls will include several public areas, with various hospitality outlets, a supermarket, and a nine-screen cinema. Some 36,000 square meters have been set aside for office accommodation. There will be an underground parking structure with shared electric cars. The housing element will deliver 151 mid-market rental apartments and 49 private sector rental properties.

Designed by MVSA Architects, De Puls will be sustainable and energy efficient. On the eighth and ninth floors, at a height of 35 meters, there will be an urban forest. This will help with cooling, store rainwater, and boost biodiversity in Zuidas. The inner courtyard that the City of Amsterdam is creating on the southern side of De Puls will also contribute to this.

In alliance with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and VU University Medical Center, De Key housing corporation and other developers and corporations, over the next 15 years this part of Zuidas is anticipated to feature around 2,700 homes, university facilities and knowledge-related businesses, a primary school, social amenities, shops, culture, bars and restaurants and OBA NEXT.
