The iconic cylindrical residential skyscraper, Ponte Tower, is being sold by Broll Auctions and Sales through a private tender. At 173 meters, the 54-story residential tower had previously held the title of tallest residential building in the country and remains one of South Africa’s most recognizable landmarks, being a defining feature of Johannesburg’s skyline for 50 years.

Completed in 1975, the building was designed by architects Mannie Feldman, Manfred Hermer, and Rodney Grosskopff, which created a hollow interior as a response to the city's regulations requiring natural light and ventilation for kitchens and bathrooms. Located on the edge of Hillbrow, an area once known for its diverse mix of writers and intellectuals, the structure has been a focal point of Johannesburg’s urban evolution.

In the early 2000s, a property group refurbished over 480 apartments in the building and included a five-star rated Airbnb penthouse. Today, the rental-only building offers bachelor, studio, one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments, with an 85 percent occupancy rate. It includes 570 secure parking bays and ground-floor retail space.
