Hybrid-Timber Office Proposed for Central Tokyo
A hybrid-timber office building under construction in central Tokyo has been selected as a leading sustainable project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
The tentatively-named Tameike Project is the redevelopment of the former Nomura Fudosan Tameike Building. The former nine-story building dating from 1959 has been demolished to make way for a new nine-story office building to be completed in October 2023.
The structure utilizes Shimizu Corporation’s "Shimizu Hy-wood" method of construction. Using timber in the construction is estimated to result in a 420 ton, or 24 percent offset in carbon emissions compared to a fully steel-frame building.
