Hong Kong Authorities State Plans for Redevelopment that Includes 50-Story Building
Hong Kong authorities have announced an ambitious proposal to transform the waterfront area surrounding the iconic Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom into a major urban landmark. The long-term plan, expected to unfold over more than a decade, includes the addition of a yacht marina, a 50-storey tower with entertainment facilities, and a dynamic mix of residential, commercial, and retail developments.
Outlined by the Development Bureau on Friday, the preliminary scheme covers a substantial 24-hectare site and is estimated to cost between HK$10 billion and HK$20 billion (US$1.29–2.58 billion). The government has indicated that the entire project will be developed by the private sector.
In addition to new buildings, the plan also calls for enhanced public infrastructure, including upgraded pedestrian passageways, improved bus stops, a modernized public transport interchange, and better connectivity to the Hung Hom MTR Station.
Positioned to become a landmark destination along Victoria Harbour, the project aims to breathe new life into this key district while reinforcing the area’s role as a hub for entertainment and recreation.
