Jeffrey Bell Architects has drawn up proposals for up to 1,500 homes across a series of blocks in Salford Quays that could rise as high as 45 stories. 

The Manchester practice submitted an outline planning application for the Michigan Avenue scheme on behalf of developer Peel Land and Property and its parent company Tokenhouse. 

The plans – in the form of a “development framework” – suggest between three and six towers of 14 to 40 stories adjacent to Media City UK, with “potential” for 45 stories. 

As well as ground- floor commercial space, the buildings would contain a mix of residential apartments, student accommodation and co-living units. 

The practice said the development would create “a high- quality and coherent urban quarter” linked to Media City UK but “with its own distinctive character.” 

Jeffrey Bell added: “The development framework tackles challenges inherited from past redevelopment of the area, significantly expanding and humanizing the public realm while improving connections. 

“The revitalized area will have new streets and public spaces with more direct and seamless connections to surrounding neighborhoods.” 

He said the objective of the development framework was to establish the parameters within which development could be brought forward. 

“Rather than prescribing a particular design style, the proposals illustrate a conceptual design approach for the architecture, infrastructure and landscape of the site.”
