Ground Breaking for 53-Story Shenzhen Office Building
Ground breaking has occured for the CIMC Global Headquarters, a 53-story, 270-meter (886-foot) skyscraper in Shenzhen’s Qianhai district, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) in partnership with China International Marine Containers Group (CIMC).
The headquarters will serve as a mixed-use complex, housing office spaces, retail outlets, and conference facilities to support over 60,000 employees. The building incorporates a central sky lobby, rooftop garden, and tiered podium, all designed to provide natural gathering spaces that enhance employee well-being and foster community.
The building will include sustainable elements, such as advanced energy-efficient systems with smart daylight sensing and photovoltaic panels, as well as high-quality materials aimed at minimizing environmental impact. The project is targeting prestigious certifications, including LEED and WELL Platinum, and China’s Three Star Green Building rating.
Accessibility is another key focus, with a sunken plaza connecting the tower directly to Shenzhen’s subway system, promoting public transit use. The stepped podium design includes a sunlit atrium, landscaped terraces, and walkways that create inviting public spaces.
The CIMC Global Headquarters, expected to be completed by 2029, aims to set new standards in sustainable urban architecture and establish a vibrant community hub, blending state-of-the-art office spaces with natural elements to inspire future urban development.
