Fukuoka Office Building Celebrates Completion
The Tenjin Business Center celebrated its completion with a ceremony earlier this month. Located in Fukuoka, Japan, this project is at the intersection of Meiji-dori, a street lined with financial institutions, and Inabacho-dori, a street filled with cafés. The project was designed by OMA to draw in people from these streets to participate in various public activities that the building will offer.
The entrance is located at the northwest corner of the building. The façade here becomes a pixelated corner that decomposes to match the human scale. A similar language is repeated at the top northeast corner to create a series of setbacks. These setbacks allow for a panoramic view of the city, including views of Nakagawa and Hakata Bay.
This office building has a total of 19 floors. The atrium is six floors high. A large area of the ground floor is open to the underground levels, allowing for sunlight to penetrate these spaces. The underground floors connect to a subway station and an underground shopping mall.
