Fire Breaks out in 28-Story Apartment High-Rise in Vancouver
A fire broke out in a high-rise apartment on 1500 Alberni in Vancouver's Coal Harbour on Monday around 4pm Pacific Time on 21 October, prompting a second-alarm response from Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services. The blaze, which is suspected to have begun on the 20th floor, involved several floors surrounding it before being brought under control around 5 p.m.
Over 50 firefighters and 14 pieces of equipment were deployed. No injuries were reported, but debris falling from the building ignited smaller fires below. The cause is under investigation, and nearby streets were closed for a short period of time to ensure safety as crews cooled down hot spots from debris.
