Design Plans for Next Phase of Manchester Innovation Hub Submitted for Consultation
Designs have been released for the first newbuild developments within the Sister innovation district, a £1.7 billion collaboration between Bruntwood SciTech and the University of Manchester. The designs submitted for consultation showcase two commercial buildings of 12 and 20 stories by architects Allies & Morrison, linked by a shared atrium and fronting a new public square designed by landscape architect SLA.
Part of the designated Zone C in the wider four million-square-foot (371,612-square-meter) development, the two buildings will deliver over 500,000 square feet (46,452 square meters) of commercial space. The phase also includes the restoration of the Grade II-listed Holloway Wall and viaduct arches, which will be repurposed for retail, leisure, and community spaces.
The consultation follows the opening of the Renold Innovation Hub, a redevelopment of the 1960s Renold Building, that opened at the end of 2023 and was the first phase completed within the district. Over the next 15 years, the Sister project will introduce two million square feet (185,806 square meters) of office, innovation, retail, and leisure space, along with 1,500 homes and nine acres (3.6 hectares) of public space.
