Construction Work Paused on Tech Giant's Arlington HQ
Construction has been paused on the Amazon HQ2 campus in Arlington, Virginia the company confirmed to News4 on Friday, 3 March, 2023. Not all phases will be impacted equally: the first phase of construction, Metropolitan Park, is almost completed and will open in June as planned. However, Amazon will hold off on starting the second phase, PenPlace, which was going to include its distinctive 352-foot (107.4-meter) The Helix building as well as three other 22-story office buildings. Construction on this phase was expected to start in the first quarter of 2023.
Metropolitan Park has two 22-story office towers and is expected to include more than 50,000 square feet (4,645 square meters) of retail space and a large 700-person meeting room.
Metropolitan Park is planned to be able to accommodate 14,000 additional workers.
