Construction has begun for the Tsukishima 3 Chome North District Town Redevelopment, which will include a 58-story, 199-meter-tall apartment building on Monja Street offering 1,285 apartments, as well as retail, childcare and elder care. Two complementary low-rise buildings will contain 56 additional apartments and care facilities for disabled tenants.

Anticipated to cost ¥85 billion (approx. US$600 million), the project is tenatively scheduled for 2026. Developers involved include Sumitomo Realty & Development, Tokyo Tatemono, Daiwa House, and Funenkousha. The redevelopment committee was formed back in 2011. Old two-story woodenshop houses covering the city blocks where the site of the new tower will be are increasingly rare as high-rise developments continue to gather pace.
