A condominium at the St. Regis tower sold Wednesday for a little more than US$20.56 million, the highest price anyone has paid for a Chicago-area home this year.

The condominium, on two full floors of the undulating supertall tower designed by Studio Gang Architects and the firm's principal, Jeanne Gang, has about 10,000 square feet (929 square meters) of interior space and another 8,000 square feet (743 square meters) of outdoor space. When it went under contract in 2018, Magellan Development Group was asking US$18.5 million.

The additional US$2 million in the purchase price presumably includes upgrades that the developer made to the buyer's specifications before delivering the finished product. Crain's couldn't confirm that because neither the agent for Magellan, Leila Zammatta, nor the agent for the buyer, Rachel Vecchio of Dream Town Realty, responded to requests for comment.

The buyer is not yet identified in public records.

At US$20.56 million, the sale of the 71st- and 72nd-floor condo at St. Regis comes in just above the $20 million purchase of the unfinished 89th floor of the Trump International Hotel & Tower in March 2022.
