A high-rise adjacent to the Columbia University campus in New York city just structurally topped out. Claremont Hall’s concrete superstructure is now finished, and the entire project is expected to complete in 2023. The developers for this project are Lendlease, L+M Development Partners, and Daiwa House. The project was designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects. The architects collaborated closely with Union Theological Seminary, a theological education center that is 180 years old. Their goal was to make sure the project integrated well with the campus and surrounding neighborhood.

The building will have a total area of about 32,060 square meters (345,000 square feet). Approximately 5,020 square meters (54,000 square feet) of the project will contain classrooms, academic offices, and faculty-designated apartments. The rest of the project will contain 165 condos that range from one to four bedrooms.

The project is targeting U.S. Green Building Council standards for LEED Gold Certification.

The development partnership also has pledged US$5 million overall to help support the Morningside Heights community. Over five years, US$1 million will be donated to community groups based in Morningside Heights. The remaining US$3.9 million will be donated to social justice programming once the project is complete.
