A new project is planned for Hollywood Sunset Boulevard called The Star. The US$500 million building will be designed by MAD Architects and developed by The Star, LLC. The project plans submitted to the city request a zoning change as well as a general plan amendment. It is predicted that the needed approvals will take two years to obtain while the construction will take three years to complete. If this timeline stands, the project should be finished in 2026.

The project is designed to be a 46,450 square-meter (500,000 square-foot) office building that is 22-stories high. The design focuses on light and air requirements for an office space. The architects are aiming for WELL and LEED Certifications.

Featured Buildings

The overall design is egg shaped, with terrace spaces on the 10th and 17th floors. Both terraces will include seating and gathering spaces for the office tenants. The lower terrace is planned to contain soft grasses while the upper terrace will be more sculptural. There will also be a garden in the upper portion of the building. The landscaped components of the building will be designed by SALT Landscape Architects.

The outer edge of the building is designed to have an outer track for funicular cars. These cars are planned to hold 30 passengers at once. There will also be an option to open them to the fresh air.
