Approval Won to Design 1,300 East London Homes
HTA Design plans to redevelop the Britannia Works factory site in London have been given approval to move forward. The updated scheme for Telford Homes will include seven buildings ranging from two to 36 stories on a 2-hectare site in Ilford, delivering 837 new BTR homes, including affordable housing and 447 student units. In the center of the scheme will sit the largest public green space in Ilford, which will help the development connect with other residential areas that are adjacent to it.
The site currently has a supermarket and parking lot, both of which will be razed in advance of the new project. The Brittania Works was home to Ilford photographic film, which was founded in 1879. An homage to that heritage will be included via names throughout the scheme.
The London-based practice says the scheme will result in a 60 percent reduction in carbon emissions through a number of measures, including a car-free site strategy.
