A Pair of Textured, Stepped Towers are Added to the Brooklyn Waterfront
A new waterfront development in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York—Eagle + West—is sited where Newtown Creek funnels into the East River. The complex's two towers, though set at a distance, share a plinth. The maximum floor plate size of 11,000 square feet (1,021 square meters) allows the scheme to expand the distance between façades from 40 to 60 feet (12 to 18 meters).
Eagle + West’s massive offering of 860,700 square feet (79,961 square meters) is set across three structures: a 30 story tower, a 40-story tower, and a seven-story podium). The top-heavy western tower, which steps out east with triangular paces, is structurally made possible by two sloping columns from which the floors below are suspended. The piers are diverted around a glazed amenity bar, which diagonally spans the site.
The façade sets eight-foot-square windows within concrete panels cast with a shingled pattern. The windows feature a textured pattern that complements the façade.
