75-Story Residential Skyscraper Proposed To Reshape Manchester's Skyline
Plans have been submitted for two residential skyscrapers in Manchester as part of the next phase of the Viadux scheme, located off Great Bridgewater Street. CTBUH has confirmed that a 75-story high-rise with a 22-story building beside it, were proposed and together they will house a total of 915 apartments. The architectural design for the project has been crafted by SimpsonHaugh.
The facade of the 76-story building has been uniquely designed to reduce windspeed, making it more pedestrian-friendly. The aerodynamic chamfer corners and inclined facades create a visually striking rippled effect. Given the height of the main building, a transfer truss will be implemented to minimize the structural impact on the viaduct below. It has the potential to take the title of the tallest building in Manchester when completed.
The 23-story tower, which is part of phase two, will include 130 affordable homes. It features a parallelogram-shaped footprint to fit closely to the viaduct structure. While not officially confirmed, it is expected that Domis, Salboy’s in-house contractor, will handle the construction of phase two.
