37-Story Student Residences Approved at Merrion Centre in Leeds
A new 37-story student residence building in central Leeds has received planning approval. The project, backed by Town Center Securities, will involve demolishing a portion of the 1960s-era shopping complex at 100 Merrion Centre to make way for over 1,000 student bedrooms.
Adjacent to the site, Wade House, another structure from the mid-1960s, will undergo redevelopment. Plans include stripping the building back, adding a new floor, and reconfiguring it to provide more than 200 additional bed spaces across 13 floors. The overall development will also feature amenities such as a cinema, gym, co-working areas, and rooftop terraces. The new high-rise will significantly reshape the skyline near the Merrion Centre, continuing the city's push for high-density student housing.
