CTBUH has confirmed that the China Resources Shenzhen Bay Yuefu Phase 2 (Tower 2) has suffered from a violent gas explosion occurring on Wednesday, 11 December, which has resulted in one recorded fatality at the time of reporting. 

In the mid-afternoon of the Nashan District in Shenzhen, community members and individuals in offices adjacent to the residences reported a loud explosion that shook the neighboring buildings. Shortly after, bystanders on the ground watched on in horror as a female seated on a balcony fell from the building. The resulting fire spread across numerous floors of the high-rise and the city shortly after dispatched 16 fire trucks and around 80 first responders who quickly extinguished the fires. 

State-run news has reported that the preliminary investigation of the fires eluded to a gas leak within the residential building on the 28th floor, although the official cause of the explosion remains to be confirmed as the investigation continues.
