As we continue Member Appreciation Month, we’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on the CTBUH India Chapter. Since its incorporation in 2015, this vibrant and growing community of members is driving meaningful conversations and connections around tall buildings and urban development.
In just the past year, the chapter has hosted everything from walking tours to full-day seminars focused on the design and construction of tall buildings. They’ve partnered with academic institutions, professional organizations, and industry leaders by creating opportunities for both emerging professionals and seasoned experts to engage with best practices and new ideas.
And there’s more to come! The India Chapter is already hard at work planning an extraordinary lineup of events for 2025 — not to mention helping shape the CTBUH 2025 Asia Conference in Mumbai, taking place December 10–12.
We’re grateful for their commitment to advancing our mission and for all their efforts to build community, share knowledge, and lead the conversations on vertical urbanism in their region.

From 15-19 January, several CTBUH India members spoke at the Council of Architecture Training & Research Centre's online faculty development program, "Redefining Skyscrapers: Exploring Advanced Systems in Tall Building Design." Created to help educators, it presented the opportunity for teachers to understand how the design of tall building systems is oriented towards specific project requirements in practice.
On Friday, 19 January, the chapter hosted an evening event about transit-oriented development, and had an incredible attendance of over 100 attendees present. The evening included a panel discussion with experts in the industry and a keynote address from Jitesh Bramhkshtriya, Senior Director at CBRE.
Held on 24 January, a full day seminar on tall buildings was hosted by the chapter at the Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.) in Hyderabad, Telangana. The academic institution is the premier institute of India in the fields of engineering and technology, and the Hyderabad location has a 600-acre campus with academic buildings, labs, and state-of-the-art facilities. Diverse topics related to the design and construction of tall buildings were covered including outrigger and dampers, façades, steel composite buildings and overall architecture. Seminar participants were comprised of B. Tech / M. Tech / Ph.D. students from I.I.T. Hyderabad, I.I.T professors and faculty, civil construction industry professionals, and structural design consultants from Hyderabad. There was a special one-hour Q&A session providing a chance to discus a wide-range of questions in the field with industry experts, which had a strong and positive response from participants.
A site visit and presentation of the Metro Line 7 in Mumbai was given to members on 3 February. On Friday, 24 May, CTBUH India hosted Archfolio, a seminar sharing best practices of urban planning and design thinking and how these can apply to the future of Mumbai. The event featured both international and local designers including Ren Yee and Tom Minderhoud of UNStudio, and Karl Wadia and Apoorva Sharma of AHC. CTBUH Chairman Shonn Mills attended the event, addressing the nearly 100 attendees from across the industry, such as architects, structural engineers, project managers, and developers. Presentations from the seminar were followed by an exclusive networking opportunity.
Later in the year, the India Chapter collaborated on a program with the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) on 3 August during their "CoOL Conclave." Part of a panel discussion titled "Innovations in Net-Zero High Rises," it was moderated by chapter member Anuja Sawant.
During the same month, the chapter hosted the successful day-long event titled "Algorithms" on 30 August, showcasing startups that demonstrate AI deployment in the real estate and construction industry. An exhibition was interspersed with fireside chats featuring prominent industry professionals sharing their perspectives on the advent of AI in their respective spheres. This innovative event format facilitated thought-provoking discussions that allowed attendees to explore how these agile startups can customize their products to meet specific business needs, and gave developers insight into the needs of the industry before bringing their working versions to the market.
CTBUH India supports the mission to share industry-leading best practices globally through research and knowledge exchange. To make this more accessible, individuals in India and those residing in other emerging economies as defined by the World Bank, are now offered reduced individual membership dues. This will ensure more connected voices contributing their expertise and informing the cities of the future.
