CTBUH Chapter Event

CTBUH Canada Presents: The Role of Damping Technology in the GTA’s Rising Skyline

Wednesday, 16 April 2025 | Faculty Club, University of Toronto 41 Willcocks St. | Toronto

The CTBUH Canada Chapter is excited to announce its next event - a breakfast event presentation/panel discussion on The Role of Damping Technology in the GTA’s Rising Skyline!

Tall buildings around the world move under the influence of wind and although this movement is normal, and will occur in every structure, it can be a problem if it interferes with the activity for which the structure was designed. As buildings continue to grow taller in our region, there is a strong chance that they will require an effective supplemental damping solution to mitigate wind-induced movement, because the higher we build, the more pronounced these movements will become.

Since as early as 1969, various damping technologies have been developed, implemented, refined, and proven to be a highly effective, reliable, and cost-effective means of mitigating motions in tall buildings. As the design and construction industries continue to push the envelope of elegant, resilient, and efficient use of building materials we need the dialogue to continually focus on advancing our sustainability practices.

What have we, in the AEC industries, learned about the process of integrating architecture and engineering into developing tall buildings in the GTA?
