CTBUH Chapter Event
Regenerative development is a value-adding process where the ground point is the “place-sourced potential.” The place-sourced potential concerns what makes a place unique and the value that this uniqueness can bring to the world. What is the inherent potential of the City of San José where the tall buildings and urban habitat fabric is shaping the urban life in Costa Rica is the beginning of a process to rethink the challenges that pose the existing urban habitat within the Costarican society.
The panel stated the following ideas:
URBAN PLANNING AND HABITABILITY OF THE CITY
1. Concepts such as the 15-minute city and others similar to strengthening the city's habitability require densification, and we have already seen how our urban center is the antithesis of this. In this sense, what strategy has been effective in similar cases, and what is the first step to regenerate San José's habitability?
REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT AND URBAN GOVERNANCE
2. Along these lines, what are the main barriers that are possible to identify for cases like San José or that, in similar cases, have been faced and should be part of this strategy?
PLANNING AND DESIGN
3. In cases like San Jose, how can densification be harmonized with the issue of verticality and, above all, in a framework of sustainable vertical urbanism where the city becomes a leading actor in the transition towards decarbonized economies?
