Wrightwood 659 is hosting an upcoming virtual program "Teaching the Skyscraper to Soar" which will take place October 19th at 11:30 AM CST.

This panel is one of the public events associated with the current exhibition Romanticism to Ruin: Two Lost Works of Sullivan & Wright.  The show reviews the history and the demolition of Sullivan's Schiller Building/Garrick Theater in Chicago, in 1961, and the demolition of Wright's Larkin Building in Buffalo, in 1950. Moderated by Michelangelo Sabatino (IIT Professor of Architectural History and Cultural Heritage), with panelists Bill Baker (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill structural engineering partner), Marko Pogacnik (IUAV University of Venice Professor of History of Architecture), and architecture and preservation legend John Vinci this program discusses the phenomenal structure of the Garrick Theatre and the legacy of Sullivan’s skyscrapers.
