During the Welcome Reception of the CTBUH 2009 International Conference in Chicago, CTBUH presented a plaque to Eric Trump of the Trump Organization recognizing the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago as the tallest building in the world with an all-concrete structure, the tallest mixed-use building in North America, the 2nd tallest building in North America, and the 6th tallest building in the world at the time of completion.

CTBUH Chairman David Scott, Chair-elect Sang Dae Kim and executive director Antony Wood presented the plaque to Eric Trump and Andy Weiss, both Vice Presidents of the Trump Organization on the 16th floor of the tower.

On 7 April 2010, the CTBUH gathered with members of the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago project team for the inauguration of the building signboard which recognizes Trump Tower's achievements. In attendance at the inauguration were: Andrew Weiss, executive vice president for the Trump Organization (building owner/developer); Paul James, Senior Vice President at Bovis Lend Lease (contractors); Richard Tomlinson, partner at Skidmore Owings and Merrill (architects/engineers); and Antony Wood, Executive Director of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.
