IIT's MTBVU and CTBUH Take Educational Travel to Dubai and Abu Dhabi

With the support of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), a group of students participating in the Illinois Institute of Technology’s (IIT) Masters of Tall Buildings and Vertical Urbanism (MTBVU) program traveled to Dubai and Abu Dhabi from 10-16 March 2024. Led by Dr. Yohan Kim, Assistant Director of the MTBVU program, students in the Spring 2024 semester Talking Tall II class had the opportunity to travel and experience a wide range of building and office tours, conversations with industry-leading experts, and urban cultural excursions in both cities.

CTBUH and IIT Studio Travel to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur

Through the generosity of a sponsorship by Ramboll Group, an extraordinary opportunity was provided to the first intake class of the Masters of Tall Buildings and Vertical Urbanism (MTBVU) program at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), led by Antony Wood, PhD, CTBUH President and Director of the new MTBVU at IIT. In support of the design studio “Sustainable Vertical Urbanism: Towards 2070 – Future Timber City,” seven MTBVU students accompanied Wood and CTBUH Research Director Daniel Safarik to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur from 6 – 19 February 2023.

CTBUH and IIT Studio Travel to Shenzhen and Guangzhou

Shenzhen – Monday, 21 January 2019 marked the beginning of this year’s IIT Advanced Studio trip to China, led by CTBUH China Office Director and Academic Coordinator Dr. Peng Du, Visiting Assistant Professor, IIT. The collaborative design studio is conducted by CTBUH with support from Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP, who also kindly sponsored the trip. Taught by Dr. Peng Du, and CTBUH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Antony Wood, the studio focuses on the theme of Sustainable Vertical Urbanism: Towards Net-Zero Carbon Skyscrapers.

CTBUH and Tongji University Studio Travel to Miami

Miami, Florida – “Network Reshaping Downtown: Transit-Oriented Mega-Development within the Miami Revitalization Plan,” is a collaborative design studio coordinated by the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP), Tongji University, Shanghai, in collaboration with the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) and Arquitectonica. The event kicked off at the Arquitectonica Headquarters in Miami when Tongji University students took a week-long visit to Miami in November, which included design workshops at Arquitectonica, site studies, and tall building tours.
