CTBUH Chair Shonn Mills welcomes attendees to the launch event for the CTBUH 2024 Asia Conference.
An incredible turn-out of over 80 people joined CTBUH on 3 July, 2024 for a lead-up event to the CTBUH 2024 Asia Conference. This half-day event had some of the region's top leaders and thinkers who came together to discuss resilient cities and the future of urban development. The day started off with a tour of The Prelude at One Bangkok led by Russell Kim, Chief Design and Innovation Officer, Frasers Property, before going to the venue to enjoy engaging presentations, a panel discussion and a networking reception at One Bangkok afterwards.

Kicking things off were CTBUH Chair Shonn Mills and CTBUH Asia Director Peng Du, followed by a stellar lineup of high-rise and urban experts. The first presentations were given by Worawat Srisa-an, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Frasers Property Holdings Thailand; Sanne Van der Burgh, Associate Director, MVRDV who talked about looking toward the future of construction with collaborative efforts and innovation; and Peter Brannan, Asia Pacific Practice Leader, SOM who presented mixed-use and Transit-Oriented Developments (TODs) projects and their potential for creating active and livable urban areas. This was followed by a brief Q&A with the audience.
Presentations on innovation, TODs and strategies for urban planning and resilience were given by Worawat Srisa-An, Sanne Van der Burgh, and Peter Brannan with an audience Q&A afterwards.
After a short break, a panel discussion with six individuals representing developers, property management, and design came together to talk about rapid growth and resilience for the Asia region. The panelists included Russell Kim, Chief Design and Innovation Officer, Frasers Property Holdings Thailand; Mark Borland, Director and Head of Projects South Asia, Hongkong Land Limited; CTBUH Board Member Charu Thapar, Executive Director, Property & Asset Management, Asia–Pacific Region, JLL; Yee Tak Lau, Director, KPF (Hong Kong); Jan Henckens, General Manager, Nikken Sekkei; and Pichai Wongwaisayawan, Deputy Managing Director, A49. Moderated by Claudia Melniciuc, Senior Project Director, RIOS Singapore, a key focus was One Bangkok, a prime example of a large-scale master plan that integrates local context throughout its components. This exciting development will also be the venue host for the CTBUH 2024 Asia Conference in December.
A panel discussion focusing on large-scale projects and master plans in the Asia region was discussed among six speakers and moderated by Claudia Melniciuc, Senior Project Director, RIOS Singapore.
After the panel, a networking reception was held at One Bangkok.
At the day's end, a networking reception was held to reflect on the discussions and connect with colleagues.
