The Turkevi Center  has topped out at 821 First Avenue in the Midtown East neighborhood of Turtle Bay. Work on the curving, sloped crown of the 563-foot-tall (171-meter-tall) consulate for the Republic of Turkey is currently underway. Perkins Eastman is the designer of the 35-story mixed-use skyscraper, which will yield about 102,000 square feet (31,000 square meters) of commercial space on the first 15 floors and house 20 apartments for residents and staff starting on the 20th floor.

There will be an underground auditorium and parking for 20 vehicles, offices, a prayer room, passport and visa branch offices, and outdoor terraces on the seventh, 11th, and 16th floors.

A total of 40,195 square feet (12,000 square feet) will be allocated to the building’s 20 units. Each will average around 2,045 square feet (623 square meters) and provide uninterrupted views of the United Nations, the East River, and the rising sun. Two apartments on the upper floors are set to become duplexes. They will sit underneath the uniquely shaped crown, the skyscraper’s distinguishing feature. Amenities will include a residential fitness center and a shared terrace space on the 20th floor.

The only other structure within the vicinity of the Turkey Center that features curved exterior lines is the sweeping roof line of the United Nations auditorium, an interesting link between the two diplomatic facilities.

Completion of the Turkevi Center is expected sometime in 2020.
