Russell Gilchrist, Practice Leader, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, Chicago, presents at the CTBUH 2009 Chicago Conference. The Pearl River Tower was conceived as a ‘net zero energy’ operating skyscraper i.e. it would generate enough energy to offset its own demand. With the tower nearing completion now, that ambition will not be fully realized, in part due to the regulations of the energy companies involved. In this presentation we hear about some of the opportunities and challenges of building both tall and sustainably in China.
