HE Hussain Nasser Lootah of Dubai Municipality, discussed how Dubai has positioned itself as the global epicenter of urban construction activity in recent years, resulting in some of the most impressive and challenging building projects in the world. His speech at the CTBUH 8th World Congress in Dubai also highlighted some latest statistics suggesting that commercial and residential buildings in Dubai utilize 70 percent of the city’s overall power consumption. This presentation focused on recent strategies implemented in Dubai to improve the sustainable performance of the city’s built environment; with special concerns to the green building directive outlined by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in October 2007 and the LEED Emirates assessment system, as developed by the Emirates Green Building Council.
