CTBUH Competitions

Each year, the CTBUH holds an International Student Tall Building Design Competition and, starting in 2016, a Student Research Competition, with the goal of shedding new light on the meaning and value of tall buildings in modern society.

Student Design Competition
2016: Cities to Megacities: Shaping Dense Vertical Urbanism

The 2016 Student Design Competition, kindly sponsored by KPF, was won by Lisa Marie Martinez of the University of Arizona and Gonzalo Casado of Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca's project "Hydro-City MXDF." Prizes for winning submissions included a total of $24,000 in cash and travel stipends.


Student Research Competition
2016: Tall Building Performance

The inaugural CTBUH Student Research Competition, kindly sponsored by Underwriters Laboratories, culminated with an award of $20,000. The goal of the competition is to assist talented students, working in groups overseen by an instructor, to focus on a relevant research question within the 2016 theme of “Tall Building Performance.”
