Author Eric Darton takes a more critical approach in his book Divided We Stand. Presenting the book as “a biography of New York’s World Trade Center,” Darton focuses on the strong personalities involved, and especially the political, financial and real estate power play which surrounded the development of the former World Trade Center. Darton is far more of a critic compared to Gillespie, especially when it comes to the role of the Port Authority. As the author tries to portray the Port Authority’s view of the World Trade Center to make their motives more understandable – one may surmise that he regards the organization as a collection of unaccountable government officials.
