Dr. Faridah is an Associate Professor at The Faculty of Civil Engineering and the  Manager of Research and Development at  Construction Technology and Management Centre,
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She was educated  in England (UK) and pursued  a doctoral degree at The University of Sheffield under  the  prestigious Association of Commonwealth Universities scholarship.  She is a structural engineer by profession and specializes in prestressed cable suspended structures and prestressed masonry.  Current research projects  are concentrated  on engineering design options for energy efficiency/sustainable  buildings.

Dr. Faridah is  the Coordinator of  the Task Group on Tall Buildings  for the International  Council on Research and Innovation (CIBTG50) since 2001,  with responsibilities  of  stimulating  research and facilitating international cooperation for future development of tall buildings. Major activities that were organized to achieve these goals include the First Global Leaders Summit on Tall Buildings (2002) Watford, England,  2nd Global Leaders Summit (2003) Kuala Lumpur,  Malaysia and  the CIB-CTBUH Conference on Tall Buildings - Strategies for Performance in the Aftermath of the World Trade Centre (2003), Malaysia. These major events were in collaboration with CTBUH. She was also an expert panel for the United Nations program on  ‘’Agenda of Sustainable Construction for Developing Countries“. Current activities with the United Nations and European Commission include regional  research and promotion of  sustainable building concepts to South-East Asia and globally, promoting the sustainable building conferences series  (SB conferences) to construction stakeholders. Recently, she has been invited as an expert to the United Nations Sustainable Building and Construction Initiative (SBCI) Think Tank Working Group on Climate Change.

Previous appointments include: Structural Engineer for consultant firms  at Newcastle and Lake District (UK); research officer with British Steel; visiting Professor at  Tokushima University, Japan (1996), Kyoto University, Japan (1996), Teesside University, England (1996-98) and Queensland University of Technology, Australia in 2000. In Malaysia, she is  Chairperson to the Standard/Code development for Masonry and serves as Technical Committee for Standards on Passive Fire. She was   editor to several internal technical publications at UTM and   chief editor for  Journal of Technology (Design, Construction and Plannning). She  is author to numerous technical papers and articles in structural engineering/construction and reviewers to many national and international  journal articles.
