Ron, President of Magnusson Klemencic Associates, and Robert, Principal at McNamara/Salvia received their accolades in recognition for both their career contributions and independently their major impact on building design. Gary C. Hart, editor of The Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings had the following to say about the achievements of the two;
"Robert McNamara has been a person whose imaginative work in modelling of real buildings using advanced analysis methods I have followed my entire career. He and I are essentially the same age and were 'born' professionally at the start of the finite element era. The type of creative modelling of buildings using standard computer programs is an under-appreciated contribution to our profession except for those of us very concerned about modelling reality. Thank you Bob! Bob also loves buildings, and for me, he showed this and was our leader in implementing dampers in buildings and understanding dampers in general."
