Bruce Graham Passing
.

Chicago, March 9, 2010 - The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat is saddened to learn of the recent passing of architect Bruce Graham, formerly with Skidmore Owings and Merrill. His influence on the Council’s hometown of Chicago was profound; one cannot look upon the city skyline without seeing the influence of Graham’s legacy. Once the tallest building in the world, Graham’s Sears (now Willis) Tower still endures today as a hallmark of the Chicago skyline while holding the title of the tallest building in North America. Equally, Graham’s Hancock Tower still holds its own as a lesson in not only structural efficiency, but elegant form and real mixed-use planning.  In his time Bruce was an active member of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat and served on the advisory board for much of the 1980’s. Few architects have had such an influential career and impact on the design of tall buildings, and Bruce Graham’s influence still reverberates today in the Council and its membership.
