Work has begun on the Ealing Arcadia shopping center, a ₤6 million (US$9.6 million) renovation project designed by Allies and Morrison, which is also set to include a residential skyscraper. The project originally featured a 40-story tower by Foster + Partners and HKR, which has since been abandoned. Read more.

Construction has begun on Brookfield Place Calgary Tower One, a 247-meter (810-foot) skyscraper, set to become Calgary's tallest as well as Western Canada's tallest upon completion. Brookfield Office Properties announced it would build the office project in July 2013. Read more.

TMT Development announced plans last week to resume construction on the long-stalled Park Avenue West Tower in downtown Portland before the end of the year. The company has been able to secure a $175 million construction loan for the stagnant mixed-used building. Read more.

Developers have broken ground on what will be a 30-story office tower in Houston's Uptown neighborhood. The property will house employees of BHP Billiton when it's completed in 2016. The 600,00-square foot building is being developed by Transwestern in the Four Oaks Place office complex. Read more.

Foster + Partners has designed a 19-story condominium tower overlooking New York's Hudson River. Work on the building at 551 West 21st Street has already started. When completed in the summer of 2015, it will feature 44 apartments, including three penthouses. Read more.

Plans have been approved for a 623-foot (190-meter) office tower at the Heron Quays West site in Canary Wharf, designed by Adamson Associates. Tower Hamlets councilors gave the go-ahead for the plans, which replace an earlier scheme designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSH+P). Read more.

Construction has begun on the Atkins-designed, ₤1 billion (US$1.6 billion) mixed-use Baoneng Shenyang Global Financial Centre in Shenyang, China, which consists of two supertall towers. Vista Land & Lifescapes Inc. has launched its high-rise project in Mindanao, located in Cagayan de Oro's central business district. Brookfield Office Properties will begin construction in September of a 247-meter (810-foot) skyscraper in downtown Calgary, the company announced in a press release. Saudi Arabia's Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal says the project to build the world's future tallest skyscraper in Jeddah is progressing as planned. Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal announced that plans to build the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia are on schedule, taking the opportunity to express interest in building a higher tower in another city, perhaps as tall as one mile (1.6 kilometers).
