TELUS, one of Canada's largest telecommunications companies, is set to begin construction on a 58-story tower in Calgary's downtown core. The TELUS Sky tower, designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), will incorporate office space, retail stores and 341 residential rental suites. Read more.

Polish developer Echo Investment has announced that in September it will begin construction of a new 39-story office project in Warsaw. The PLN500 million (US$148 million) Q22 scheme will be built on the site of the former Mercure Hotel, which was demolished earlier this year. Read more.

Tishman Speyer and China Vanke have broken ground for LUMINA, a mixed-use project at Main and Folsom streets in downtown San Francisco, near the waterfront Transbay area. Saudi Arabia's Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal says the project to build the world's future tallest skyscraper in Jeddah is progressing as planned. The prince made the announcement at the fourth board meeting of the Jeddah Economic Company (JEC), the company set up to develop the 1-kilometer (3,280-foot) Kingdom Tower. Read more.

Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal announced that plans to build the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia are on schedule, taking the opportunity to express interest in building a higher tower in another city, perhaps as tall as one mile (1.6 kilometers). Porsche Design Group (PDG) has broken ground on its 60-story landmark "ultra-luxury" tower in Miami. The skyscraper, which represents PDG's first foray into residential real estate, has reportedly sold 50 percent of the 132 units, already amounting to more than $400 million in sales. Read more.

Agora Garden Tower, a twisting skyscraper with an inhabitable "jungle," is now under construction in Taipei. The Agora, designed by Vincent Callebaut Architecture (VCA), will feature an orchard, a vegetable garden, space for aromatic and medicinal plants and a compost and rainwater capture system. On Monday, developers launched construction of 7 Bryant Park, a 28-story steel and glass tower located on the corner of New York's 40th Street and Sixth Avenue. Construction has begun on Singapore's largest residential development, the Zaha Hadid-designed d'Leedon condominium tower complex. The seven tower development will reportedly cost £1.1 billion (US$1.6 billion) and is scheduled to be completed in 2015. Read more.
