Above-ground work on the 1-kilometer-tall Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will begin next month, according to Building Design. Construction has begun on Journal Squared, a three-tower residential complex in the recently invigorated Journal Square section of Jersey City. The tallest tower will be 222 meters, and it will be joined by two neighbors of 193 and 175 meters, respectively.Read more.

Foster + Partners and Thomas Heatherwick have unveiled images of the Bund Finance Centre, which is now under construction in Shanghai on the banks of the Huangpu River. The 420,000-square meter (4.5 million-square foot) complex will feature two 180-meter (590-foot) office towers at the end of Shanghai's waterside street, The Bund. Read more.

Ground was officially broken on 181 Fremont St., a 54-story, 684,000-square foot (63,546 square-meter) residential and office tower near the Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco. CPG Singapore has launched construction on its Thrive United office tower in the South China Singapore City in the Nanhai District of Foshan. The building project will be part of a multi-tower mixed-use complex which will include residential, school, retail, hotel and office spaces. Read more.

Work has begun on the Ealing Arcadia shopping center, a ₤6 million (US$9.6 million) renovation project designed by Allies and Morrison, which is also set to include a residential skyscraper. Developers have broken ground on what will be a 30-story office tower in Houston's Uptown neighborhood. The property will house employees of BHP Billiton when it's completed in 2016. The 600,00-square foot building is being developed by Transwestern in the Four Oaks Place office complex. Read more.

Foster + Partners has designed a 19-story condominium tower overlooking New York's Hudson River. Work on the building at 551 West 21st Street has already started. When completed in the summer of 2015, it will feature 44 apartments, including three penthouses. Read more.

Brookfield Office Properties will begin construction in September of a 247-meter (810-foot) skyscraper in downtown Calgary, the company announced in a press release.
